I’ve been using AI more and more lately, and unlike a lot of things that happen in tech—like NFTs—AI is here to stay.
Almost every company now has some type of AI component. Learning about AI, even if it’s just the basics, is a smart decision. The amount of potential it has is huge. And the people who use it will benefit.
Where to begin if you want to learn?
It’s not difficult. It just takes time.
One resource that popped up on my radar is this free course called OpenAI Academy. The delivery seems dry, but I think the content is legit. Other options include YouTube or various resources available from leading AI companies, such as this one from Anthropics.
Personally, I think the best way to learn something is to use it. There are a lot of options when it comes to which AI platform to use. Each one has pros and cons. And they’re all competitive with one another.
Which is a good thing, because competition leads to improvements.
How am I using AI?
Your use cases may vary. Here’s what I’m using and how it’s helping.
Q&A: I haven’t used Google in a while, and I don’t see myself going back. The results are too busy and, even worse, driven by ads. If you want to distill thousands of sources in seconds, use AI. Not Google.
Cooking: After describing what I want, what ingredients I have, and what portion I want to make, I can get a custom recipe in seconds.
Coding: One of the most beautiful things about AI is that it’s opening up the world of programming to non-programmers. Turning your ideas into reality has never been easier. It’s both a time-saver and a productivity booster for me.
Advertising: Making ads is so much easier with AI. It’s also convenient to turn any image I want into a video.
Writing: This post was written without AI, but I am using AI more often to write for clients. After giving the AI my notes and outline, I let it find sources, create analogies, and tighten up the copy.
AI still requires a lot of handholding, but the amount of progress it’s made in just the past few months is incredible. In a few years, the world will be a very different place because of AI.
